Why Online Training is a Game-Changer for Your Reactive Dog

Today, technology is reshaping how we train dogs. It might seem strange not to have your trainer physically in the room with you at first, but when you see the results you’ll be a believer!

Working online has been proven to be one of the best ways to change  your reactive dog’s behavior. The virtual programs I’ve created are highly effective, cost-efficient & convenient without sacrificing the personalized support you and your dog need.

Why Virtual Training Works Best for Reactive Dogs

I will always do puppy training in person, it just makes sense. However, for dogs who struggle with reactivity, having me there in person can be overwhelming. The "trainer effect"—where your dog behaves differently due to the trainer’s presence—can actually make in-person sessions less effective.

Online training removes this stress, allowing your dog to feel safe in familiar surroundings and focus on learning new ways to behave. Removing stress - especially for anxious dogs - results in a better training experience plus better training results!

Even with my in person clients, much of the work ends up being done via email, text and phone calls outside of our in person sessions. I don’t need to handle your dog or even see certain behaviors in action in order to help you reach your behavior goals.

That’s because the secret to successful training is teaching you—the dog parent—how to implement the right techniques with expert guidance. You know your dog best and, with the right coaching, you’re fully capable of helping them gain confidence and change their behavior long term.

How Online Training Works with Me

With 20+ years experience coaching & teaching humans—much of it online—I bring a proven system of effective virtual learning to dog training. I work with clients through live Zoom sessions, self-paced courses & personalized video feedback. You receive:

  • Real-time coaching on how to implement customized management, enrichment & training strategies

  • Step-by-step video analysis to refine your technique

  • Handouts, resources & structured training plans tailored to your dog’s specific needs

  • Flexible scheduling—no need to clean the house or coordinate in-person visits!

Why Online Training is Better Than In-Person Specifically for Reactive Dogs

Live sessions are incredibly effective for a variety of training needs, including:

  • Puppy training (as mentioned above)

  • Basic manners

  • Resource guarding

  • Body handling & cooperative care (husbandry)

When it comes to changing a dog’s reactive thoughts and behavior, virtual training is actually superior to in-person training. Why? Because I don’t need to trigger your dog’s fear or anxiety by coming to your home. I already know what reactivity looks like (after all it’s pretty much what I do all day every day) so I don’t need to see your dog barking at me to help you! Instead, I guide you step by step through the training process in a way that prioritizes your dog’s emotional well-being while producing lasting results.

Even with leash reactivity, we simply do fieldwork together when you take your dog to a safe location and I coach you on the phone in real time. You can also send me video clips of your training practices for review and feedback. All you need is the smartphone you already have - no new fancy equipment to buy!

Training Challenges I Can Help You With Virtually

In online programs, I’ve successfully helped clients work through:

  • Stranger danger & fear of people

  • House training issues

  • Crate training & resource guarding

  • Baby prep & new dog introductions

  • Fear of children or men

  • Leash reactivity & excessive barking

  • Window barking & fear of leaving the house

What Happens in an Online Training Session?

Depending on if you’ve opted for a single session or longer program, we start by scheduling a time to meet via Zoom. Then, we’ll discuss all or some of the following depending on your chosen program:

  • Your training goals and vision for your dog’s behavior

  • Management strategies to reduce stress and set your dog up for success

  • Enrichment activities to build confidence

  • Strategies for reducing your dog’s overall anxiety

  • Quick changes to implement for some immediate relief

  • Available resources and supports

  • How your dog learns and communicates

  • A customized behavior modification plan

  • For multiple session programs, we’ll also track your progress, troubleshoot challenges & update your training plan.

You’ll receive:

  • Session recordings & detailed notes

  • Customized gear and enrichment recommendations

  • Training plans & fieldwork assignments

  • Supporting resources & materials

  • Ongoing support via text, email and video review (even for single sessions)

Still Wondering If Online Training Is Right for You?

It’s human nature to be skeptical of new ways of doing something when you’ve only ever been told the opposite! I get that. Plus, change is hard but, for reactive dogs, having a safe and supportive place to learn is most important. I want to help you create real lasting change by empowering you with the right tools, knowledge and support to help your dog thrive!

Which is exactly what my online programs are designed to do.

If you’re ready to train your reactive dog in a way that reduces stress (for both of you), improves confidence, and actually worksgive an online session a try for only $75 (once you submit payment, I’ll contact you to schedule your session!)
